metals by ellen

Loves first sigh is wisdom's last... As a metalsmith/jewelry maker, I lose all sense of reason when it comes to gems and gold, which seems to be the definition of love. I think there's nothing better than the rush of watching the solder flow...a new piece being created...and seeing someone wear a finished piece! This blog is my space to display some of my work, and sprinkle in dispatches from another big passion in my life - wine. Enjoy!

Fading Blooms and a New Idea Blooms

So...the 1985 Richebourg was merely a fading beauty - probably a victim of improper storage somewhere along the journey to me. Like the slow decay of peonies, the last gasps of youth must be savored, not wasted. Likewise my last days in the studio before a summer break: As I was thinking about putting aside my tools for the next two months, a design idea was born. Sometimes last gasps can be opportunities of inspiration!
